A Biographical Title is a title bestowed on an individual from a Biographical Association or a Who's Who organization. Who's Who organizations only confer the title Who's Who. Biographical associations not only confer the title Who's Who, but also confer other titles as well. Biographical titles are of two varieties. The first variety of biographical title is the Directory or Dictionary Title. Directory titles are also called companion titles because they are titles that are given when one's biography is being published in a particular directory or a special section of that directory. The second type of title is the Membership Title. Annual Member and Life Member are the two most common types of membership title. Biographical Associations have several levels of Membership.
A Biographical Association's basic membership is the Biographical Association Fellow (annual membership), then comes the Life Fellow. The IBC also has a level of membership called Life Patron which is just above the Life Fellow. These memberships come with special benefits and priviledges. For example, Life Fellows not only obtain the title 'Life Fellow of the Biographical Association'; in addition, they also get to use post nominal designations and in some cases obtain discounts on biographical dictionaries and their companion medals and companion titles. There are several different levels and designations of Biographical Association membership and the titles and entitlements that go with them. I will not list them here.
What make the titles of Biographical Association Fellows so distinctive are the people that they represent. These biographees are the prized professors, scientists, musicians, professionals, educators and, in some cases, cultural icons of their native countries. One must always remember that biographical titles are just that 'biographical titles and designations' and are only as good as the people that they represent. Please note that if one receives a nomination and does not accept the nomination, the nomination is sometimes given to someone less deserving; therefore, accepting nominations is highly encouraged.
